A drawing in Algebra

Most people do not think of algebra as doing a drawing but at the time of Al-Khwarizmi (c800AD) people thought problems could only be solved if they could be drawn.

(x + y)2 = x2 + 2xy + y2    Draw this!

Conclusion:  The drawing shows clearly that (x+y)2 = x2 + 2xy + y2

Test yourself:  Try to do a drawing which will show the connection between (x-y)2 and x2-2xy+y2

(This could be difficult!   But let us know how you get on.  Use the contact e-mail below.)
